Roger Low, who is 73, celebrates after completing another London Marathon

MARATHON man Roger Low continued his record of competing in each and every single London Marathon on Sunday – one of just 11 athletes in the country to boast the extraordinary achievement.

The 73-year-old, who has been a member of the Highgate Harriers for more than 30 years, completed the course in five hours, 27 seconds. It’s the 37th year in a row that he has crossed the finishing line, logging a personal best over the years of 2:33:47.

Reflecting on the changes that he’s seen during the event, Roger, who lives in Camden Town, said: “Obviously there’s a lot more runners now, but I’d say the biggest difference is the support. In the early years you could run for miles without seeing anyone. Now there’s not a foot along the way where there’s not people cheering you on, and handing you sweets or bananas.”

“For the 11 of us left who have taken part in the London Marathon every year since it started, it’s now more an obligation,” Roger joked. “I’m certainly planning on coming back again next year.”
