"We want to thank all of the wonderful staff at University College London Hospital"

THERE was a certain councillor absent from Town Hall proceedings on Thursday night – but he had a very good reason to miss the nitty- gritty of local authority life, writes Emily Finch.
Cllr Ward, who is usually standing up answering questions from the public throughout the meetings, was unable to attend the drama because of the birth of his baby girl, Sophie.
The cabinet member for housing rushed to University College London hospital with his partner, Suma Surendranath, after Sophie arrived two weeks early.
“We are so happy,” said Cllr Ward, a Labour representative for Holloway. “She was born at 1.01am on Thursday December 6, over a fortnight before her due date.
“We want to thank all of the wonderful staff at University College London Hospital who acted so professionally and promptly when we arrived unexpectedly on Wednesday evening. Thank God for our brilliant NHS.”
There was a loud cheer in the council chamber when Cllr Ward’s first-born was announced along with the birth of Cllr Sara Hyde’s child. Cllr Hyde represents Caledonian Road ward for the Labour Party.
Cllr Flora Williamson said after the meeting: “Massive congratulations!”
