GREEN Wing and Bliss star Stephen Mangan has written to Town Hall planners with a plea to help keep Primrose Hill beautiful.
The popular actor has filed an objection against new condenser units lined up for the Utopia Village office complex in Chalcot Road, which he described as “enormous”.
As council officials decide whether to grant planning permission for the new fans, Mr Mangan, who lives in the area, said he “can’t stress too strongly” how unhappy he was about the plans, adding: “The visual impact will be huge – 11 metres x 3.5 metres! It’s simply not reasonable, fair or right.”
Also loved by millions for his hilarious hosting duties on Have I Got News For You?, Mr Mangan added: “This is a beautiful neighbourhood, a conservation area” and said that people living nearby should not have to “bear the brunt” of the proposals.
“We are to bear all the ugliness for none of the benefit,” he said, adding that he thought Utopia Village should place the units somewhere where they could not be seen by others. Concerns about possible noise disruption have also been raised.
Utopia Village said in its application that it believed plant noise would be reduced by the new kit. It said the new coolers would be more efficient, adding: “The proposed location for the new units is both inconspicuous and positioned to be located at the furthest possible distance from neighbours.”
