An open letter to Sir Keir Starmer – who are you representing?
08 November, 2018
‘Our question to you Sir Keir Starmer is this – who precisely are you representing in taking this stance?’
An open letter to Sir Keir Starmer
• MORE than 700,000 people recently took to the streets to call for a people’s vote on the final Brexit proposal but the response from the Labour Party has been deafening in its silence!
It is also striking that while your fellow local MP, Tulip Siddiq, has been a visible and active champion of a people’s vote, you have consistently refused to publicly back a public vote on the final deal.
So our question to you Sir Keir Starmer is this – who precisely are you representing in taking this stance? More than 75 per cent of Camden residents voted to remain and yet you are not championing our cause.
There is now a majority in favour of a people’s vote in every Labour constituency around the country, while a recent YouGov poll indicated that if we crash out of the EU and Labour fails to support a people’s vote, the Labour Party could lose up to 7 per cent of its voters and hence damage its chances at the next election.
Your stance neither supports your constituents nor the interests of the wider labour movement; (note that 86 per cent of Labour Party members support a people’s vote).
It’s time to take a stance, either publicly support the call for a people’s vote and encourage your fellow MPs to do likewise, or accept the fact that you will lose the support of many of your constituents at the next general election.
