THIS weekend the focus turns to the Women’s FA Cup and Tottenham are set to make history regardless of how their quarter-final tie with Arsenal pans out.

The Gunners have lifted the trophy a record 14 times, but this is the first time that Spurs have reached the last eight.

Even so, Arsenal boss Joe Montemurro is expecting a tricky contest. “I love the small rivalry that’s forming and that’s exciting,” he said.

“They have recruited very well, they are very well organised and the added derby emotion will make it a very tough game.”

Tottenham’s marquee signing, US striker Alex Morgan, has trained with her new teammates so could play some part at Meadow Park.

Whether Arsenal’s own hot-shot Jill Roord features remains to be seen. Montemurro was still awaiting news on the midfielder, who scored in the Netherlands’ Euro 2022 qualifier against Russia on Friday, but returned with a knee injury.

The winner of Saturday’s showdown, to be shown live on BBC2 at 5.15pm, will face either Championship outfit Leicester City or cup holders Manchester City away in the semi-final on Thursday, October 1, in a 7.15pm kick off.
