Barcelona clash stadium switch blow for Spurs

Champions League fixture will be played at Wembley, as safety issues mean new White Hart Lane ground won't be ready in time to host Spanish giants

Spurs will play Barcelona at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday, October 3

TOTTENHAM fans are still digesting the news that they will not get the chance to welcome Barcelona to their new White Hart Lane ground in the group stages of the Champions League after the club confirmed that all fixtures this autumn will be held at Wembley.

In an email to season ticket holders, chairman Daniel Levy said that because of delays in safety systems at the new 62,000-seater stadium, the club had made the difficult decision to host Barcelona on Wednesday, October 3, followed by Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven and Italian giants Inter Milan, at the national stadium.

“We are facing many issues, but although disappointing, costly and frustrating, I am uncompromising in my determination to deliver something extraordinary,” said Levy.

Meanwhile, Spurs saw their unbeaten Premier League record crumble on Sunday after a lacklustre performance away at Watford. Manager Mauricio Pochettino was quick to identify what went wrong after the 2-1 defeat.

He said: “We need to show more aggressiveness. We went ahead, and then in set-pieces we concede two goals. If you want to be a contender you cannot concede this type of action.”
