Biden-Harris victory fills us with joy

• FOR those fighting for a better world where children aren’t hungry or the colour of your skin or where you are born doesn’t determine your lot in life, the Joe Biden-Kamala Harris victory in America cannot help but fill you with joy.

As members of Sir Keir Starmer’s Constituency Labour Party, we know that another world is possible. Like Joe Biden, Sir Keir is a decent and honourable man. He has spent his life fighting for justice and the rights of all.

Vice-president elect Kamala Harris has made history and inspires us to believe that barriers can be broken, be they colour, class or creed.

Like Kamala, Angela Rayner has defied the odds, battling against entrenched regional and class structures that sadly still exist in our country, structures that make it easy for a boy from Eton to rise to the top but not a girl from Stockport.

Brick by brick Joe Biden has painstakingly rebuilt the “blue wall”, winning back voters that had turned away. He has brought people together from different backgrounds and walks of life, uniting their differences with a common belief in a better world.

Sir Keir and Labour will do the same, convincing people that a Labour government stands for the values that they hold dear – decency, honesty, compassion.

Today we celebrate a Biden-Harris win in America and wish them well on a journey to build a better world. We can’t wait to do the same in 2024.
