THE Town Hall has hosted an Eid celebration at the Chalcots evacuation rest centre this lunchtime (Sunday), as an imam appealed for patience. The party included food provided by the Greatcroft Resource Centre, the Mia restaurant in Finchley Road and the Namaste in Camden Town and other donations handed over to help people who were told to leave their homes on Friday evening.

Imran Khan, from. the King’s Cross Mosque, told the gathering in the Swiss Cottage Community Centre: “When we have patience, God will reward us for this. This is something we always have to keep in our minds.”

Residents have been warned that they may not be able to move back into their flats for up to four weeks while urgent fire safety works are completed. Inspectors went into the high rise blocks last week in the wake of the Grenfell fire tragedy.
