Camden New Journal named among best newspapers in the UK ahead of industry awards

CNJ shortlisted for 'Newspaper Of The Year' going at Regional Press Awards

12 April, 2017

THE Camden New Journal has been named among the six best high-circulation local newspapers across the whole of the United Kingdom ahead of a prestigious industry awards ceremony. Judges ruling on the Regional Press Awards shortlisted the CNJ in the “Weekly Newspaper of the Year” category following another year of agenda-setting scoops and investigations as Camden’s best-read newspaper.

The CNJ – one of the only independently-run titles left in the regional press industry – finds itself flying the flag for London, having been nominated alongside the Hereford Times, the Kent Messenger, the Cumberland News and the Isle of Wight County Press. The awards are seen as the annual “Oscars” for local newspapers, organised by the Society of Editors and held in association with the Press Association,, the News Media Association and the Journalists Charity.

Chairman of the judges Paul Horrocks said: “Looking at the entries this year, the judges were incredibly impressed by the standard of campaigning undertaken in the newsrooms of the regional and local press. The sheer scale of newspaper teams bringing communities together was a genuine pleasure to see.” The New Journal’s deputy editor Richard Osley said: “Being nominated in national awards like this is testament to the hard work put in every week by everybody at the newspaper across all departments, but is also a recognition of the role of our readers who keep us on our toes each week and we’d like everyone for their ongoing support.”

The Regional Press Awards are due to be held on May 22.
