VOLUNTEERS at the Castlehaven food bank have seen the uptake of their service increase again in recent weeks – and are calling for donations to help meet the need.

The food bank, set up by the Highgate Newtown Community Centre, has recently moved from the Castlehaven Community Centre to the tenants’ association hall on the Clarence Way estate, as they needed more space to cope with demand.

Volunteers have helped provide 4,500 people with weekly groceries over the summer. The centre has also teamed up with the Holly Lodge Community Centre, St Mary’s Brookfield, St Anne’s and the United Reform Church to provide a daily hot meal at their new lunch club service.
