Man in his 50s ‘beaten to death in Camden Town casino’

A police cordon remains around City Slots the day after murder

POLICE have arrested a man on suspicion of murder after a man in his 50s was beaten to death at a Camden Town casino last night (Tuesday).

The killing happened at City Slots on Camden High Street just after 10pm on July 28 following an altercation between the victim and suspect.

Members of the public are said to have fled the building and a member of staff locked the door of the premises until the police arrived.

Emergency services were called to the incident and paramedics fought to save the man’s life but he died at the scene.

Officers arrested a man, aged in his 20s, and he is being held at Holborn Police Station custody suite for questioning.

Forensic investigators are working at the scene

Police have established the man’s identity and his next of kin have been informed.

The victim and suspect are said not to be known to each other and the killing happened following an altercation in the casino between the two.

The Met’s Specialist Crime North unit have launched an investigation.

The incident is not believed to be gang-related.

The killing was called “shocking and brutal”

Enquiries are ongoing and cordons remain in place around the scene.

Camden Town sergeant Alvaro Aracena-Fuentes said: “This is a shocking and brutal incident during which the victim sustained injuries to an extent he died when the paramedics got there.

“This is however an isolated incident and not gang-related, so no restriction measures will be put in place in the area. We have reassurance patrols going on up and down the high street and I am liaising with all our partner agencies.”
