Education Secretary officially opens new classrooms, science labs and sports facilities at Hampstead School

Secretary of State for Education, Damian Hinds MP, visited Hampstead School on Thursday 12 July to officially open the school’s new facilities, funded with £18.5 million from the government’s priority schools building programme.

The new facilities include:
• Brand new super block – with new hall, dining facilities and suite of classrooms There are 15 new classrooms, plus 10 brand new science labs
• Brand new sports hall and dance studio, astro-turf pitch and multi-use games area
• Refurbished block with 12 more refurbished classrooms.

Mr Hinds, who became Secretary of State for Education in January this year, toured the new facilities with Hampstead students and Headteacher Jacques Szemalikowski before meeting school governors and guests from Camden Council and Camden Learning, the council’s school improvement partner.

Jacques Szemalikowski, Headteacher of Hampstead School, said “It’s great that after a challenging building programme, our fantastic new facilities have been officially opened. Finally, students at Hampstead School have the facilities, both indoors and outdoors, that they deserve.”

Education Secretary Damian Hinds said: “It was a great privilege to come here and open these fantastic new facilities and also to meet an interested and engaged group of Year 10 pupils.
“Not only will these new facilities allow pupils to play sports, games and more in a modern environment, but they will help the school to continue its journey to providing an outstanding education to its pupils.”
