Even if a tree is sick it might not be terminal

01 February, 2018

Cartoon: John Sadler

• CONGRATULATIONS to your reporter Helen Chapman and artist Bryn Jones for having raised voices defending trees in the area (Artist paints the stump red over axing of chestnut tree, January 25).

Again, with no warning and questionable need, an ancient tree is chopped down, this time presumably in the name of health and safety.

Even if the tree was ill (was it? how ill?) drastic, actually fatal, surgery cannot be the only answer to these problems. Again, if we doctors reacted to illness like this there would be very few people walking around with two feet!
