THE deaths of Wilson Varela and Assad Yarow from this time last year are not the only cases from 2019 that still need solving.

Nobody has faced charges over the death of Calvin Bungisa, 22, who died after being ambushed and stabbed in Gospel Oak on April 1 last year.

Detectives have appealed for help previously and issued pictures of a car believed to have been used in the attack. A 23-year-old man was arrested but was later released under investigation. Five men have been interviewed under caution: two in 2019, two in June this year and most recently one last month.

Meanwhile, no one has been jailed for the murder of 20-year-old Cabdullahi Hassan on the Abbey Road estate on July 25, 2019.

Two men did face a murder trial at the Old Bailey in that case but both were found not guilty by a jury earlier this year. That case remains open and detectives say they are seeking information regarding a car they believe may have been involved in the murder.

It is suspected that some of the suspects travelled to and from the scene in a navy blue Vauxhall Astra, registration KD06 DDV.

Officers are appealing to anyone who saw the vehicle on the night, knows who may have been driving it at the time, or can tell police where the vehicle is now, to come forward.

Crimestoppers can be called anonymously on 0800 555 111.
