TWO old foes played out a thriller in their final game of the season in the Premier Division of the Middlesex County Cricket League on Saturday.
Openers Callum Jackson and Mubasher Hassan got Hampstead off to the perfect start against North Middlesex, driving the score past 120 runs before the loss of their first wicket.
Jackson went on to score a well-crafted 67 at Lymington Road in West Hampstead, while Hassan piled on a further 58.
Another partnership late on between Fergal Walter and Archie Fellowes, who hit 35 and 33 runs respectively, also proved crucial as Hampstead ended their 50 overs on 255-7.
In reply, Connor Nurse got North Midd moving in the right direction with a knock of 59. Matthew Cracknell also batted well to add a further 63 runs to the total, while Max Harris put on a late stand of 40. Their efforts moved North Midd to within a whisker of the win.
In the end, however, Hampstead were just too strong in the field, with Ben Frazer collecting five wickets for 38 runs and Rich Banham taking 3-32 as North Midd were bowled out for 228 to earn the home side a narrow 27-run victory.
