ARSENAL fans will be hoping manager Mikel Arteta is keeping himself busy during the pause in the Premier League by planning an overhaul of the Gunners’ ailing squad.
With journalists desperately looking to fill the column inches, the rumour mill has linked the north Londoners with defensive reinforcements.
Among their top targets is £60million-rated West Ham centre-back Issa Diop, with Arteta hoping to play the 23-year-old alongside forgotten Gunners signing William Saliba, who will return from his loan spell at Saint-Etienne in the summer.
Supporters might be surprised to see the club also linked with Dejan Lovren. The Croatian centre-back, who has fallen down the pecking order at Liverpool, would cost around £18m.
One prime purchase would be French World Cup winner Samuel Umtiti, who has reportedly been told he can leave Barcelona at the end of the season following a Catalan career plagued by injuries. Arsenal would face tough competition for the central defender’s signature.
