Hampstead Road stabbing: Man pronounced dead at scene

POLICE have opened an investigation into a stabbing in Camden Town which has left a young man dead today (Monday).

Detectives said a man in his late teens or early 20s had been pronounced dead at the scene in Hampstead Road. Officers had been called to a reports of a stabbing at the junction with Granby Terrace at around 11.45am. They are now trying to establish the identity of the victim.

A 17-year-old youth has been arrested in connection with the investigation. He has been taken to a hospital where his condition is not believed to be serious.

Onlooker Alex Harris said: “I was walking back from the shops. I’ve got a pint of milk in my hand and I walk past the guy and I saw what looked like a big gaping hole in his side. There were paramedics around him. There were giving him a blood transfusion. I don’t know who he is. One of my friends went over there and said he’s not from around here.”


She added: “It was broad daylight. It was the morning. Who is doing this sort of thing in the middle of the day, there could of been kids playing there witnessing it.”

A delivery driver, who asked not to be named, said he saw the aftermath of the stabbing.

He said: “A man was screaming they stabbed, they stabbed him and then I saw three boys running away and the police officer chase after them with his baton.

“The police were here so quick, it’s like they were around the corner. The constable told me they caught one of the boys.”

Road closures are in place, and some train services have been disrupted while emergency services deal with the incident.
