Hang on to social housing
06 June, 2019
• JOHN Mason’s Forum (Time for a municipal housing shake-up, May 30) is a very thoughtful one, but unfortunately tends push matters towards the relatively distant future.
A decision completely to stop sales of all forms of social housing could be taken immediately. Since the Thatcherite buying of votes by selling off council housing, those properties have passed out of local authority hands and this is, of course, not coincidental or accidental but is clearly part of an unstated policy of social engineering that is being very quietly achieved under our very noses.
Mr Mason’s belief in Brexit providing a context for improvements in the field of social housing is touching but seems highly improbable in my opinion.
