THERE was double delight for Highgate Harriers on Saturday when the club’s senior men’s and women’s teams both bagged bronze medals at the English National Cross-Country Championships.
Held at Wollaton Park in Nottingham, Hannah Viner led Highgate’s four to score home as she took 12th place, completing an energy-sapping 8k course in 34 mins 47 secs.
With more than 900 athletes completing the race, Nina Griffith (36:29) and Yasmin Goater (36:42), who were 31st and 34th respectively, and Vicky Walker (38:20) who was 82nd, also all scored valuable points to seal a team bronze.
Highgate’s senior men’s team were just as mighty in the mud, with Alex Lepretre completing the 12k “nine to score” competition in 45:02 to take 12th place out of a field of more than 1,700 finishers. Highgate’s other scorers were: Roger Poolman, Alex Bampton, Sean Renfer, Christopher Rainsford, Robel Bahelbi, Charlie Haywood, Rob Wilson, and Terence Fawden.
