I don’t even have a hat…

• THANK you for publishing my letter (Horse racing is not ‘posh’, January 7) but John Sadler’s cartoon (after Eliza Doolittle at Royal Ascot) is a bit misleading.

You can wear whatever you like to most racecourses if you are buying general admission tickets. Premier enclosures usually request “smart casual” dress.

It’s only Royal Ascot and maybe the odd “ladies’ days” at different tracks that require customers to dress to the nines. The people they show on TV dress up because they want to.

I don’t even own a hat. And I’ve been to a number of race meetings including the Oaks at Epsom a few years ago.
