Boxer Shannon Courtney has raised £1,000 for Islington Boxing Club
BOXER Shannon Courtney has auctioned off a glove from her first professional fight to raise money for Islington Boxing Club as it faces a struggle to survive due to the coronavirus crisis.
Ms Courtney, who raised £1,000, paid tribute to the Hagland family, who set up and run the Upper Holloway club, saying they had done more for her than “anyone knows about”.
The club have released a statement pleading for more people to donate as it faces a £10,000 shortfall.
Manager Reggie Hagland said: “The family ethos of this club has provided emotional support to many – a place where friendships have been fostered and sustained. The contribution that this club has made and that we hope will continue to make to the community is vital.
“In order for Islington Boxing Club to continue, we urgently need your help.”
