It’s cars that kill people

14 February, 2020

• TWO of your February 6 letter-writers called for a crackdown on illegal, dangerous, cyclists on pavements.

I totally agree that cyclists should not ride on pavements; but where best to put our limited police resource?

The Guardian recently reported: “Of the 51,300 pedestrians killed across the EU between 2010 and 2018, 99 per cent were struck by motor vehicles, with 1 per cent hit by bicycles.”

Speeding drivers, on their mobile phones, jumping red lights, these are what are really dangerous on our streets, not to mention the air pollution all drivers cause.

Why does no one ever write letters about this much more serious problem?
