Branch to close in October

THE last bank in Kentish Town will close later this year, after Lloyds announced its branch will shut in October.

Customers will be able to go into the bank for the final time on October 25. Some services will continue to be provided at the nearby post office.

Caroline Hill, who chairs Kentish Town Road Action group, said: “It’s very sad that this should happen. Lloyds always seems to be full when I go in, I always have to queue.

“We do need banks. We don’t need a lot of banks, but we need some. “It makes a difference for a lot of people who can’t get about very easily, because they can’t do it all online. People like to have a personal relationship with staff or their bank manager, and that will be lost.

“I don’t think it’ll have a great impact on Kentish Town, as we’ve not got many vacant shops, and it has done quite well out of the pandemic, but it is a shame.”

Lloyds said that 83 per cent of personal customers in Kentish Town already use other branches, and telephone or online banking. Accounts will be transferred to the Camden Town branch in Camden High Street.
