Let’s make sure it’s a season for everyone to be merry

THE dark winter days are drawing in, the cosy jumpers are on and the tear-jerking Christmas adverts are pulling at our heartstrings.

But as the sparkling festive lights of London begin to glow, for many they usher in the hardest time of the year.

There are parents struggling to find the money to surprise their children on Christmas Day. There are elderly people who face spending cold winter nights alone, wistfully dreaming of happier times.

Community is a word that means something different to us all – some may not even feel part of a community in Islington.

But each year, with our readers’ help, the Tribune aims to show that our community cares about those who need support at this time of year.

Last week, we launched our annual Christmas Hamper Appeal fundraiser, where we deliver treats to deserving people in the week before Christmas.

We know that for some the gifts may not end their struggles, but we hope they will bring a reminder that no one should miss out on the celebrations.

All we are asking is that readers make a donation, of whatever they can afford, to the appeal.

We are also asking people to come up with ideas to raise money: such as pub quizzes or a sponsored run.

With your help, we can change someone’s Christmas for the better.

You can send a cheque to ‘Islington Tribune Hamper Fund’, Islington Tribune, 40 Camden Road, London, NW1 9DR, or donate by clicking on the button below:
