Let’s not have any unnecessary phone boxes

16 March, 2017

• THIS month Camden Council advertised numerous planning applications in the borough from Maximus Networks to install new public telephones.

There are applications for three new phones around the Swiss Cottage gyratory alone.

I checked last week and not one of the existing 10 telephone boxes was in use.

The prospect of additional street furniture in an already cluttered streetscape, which serves little purpose in this age of almost universal mobile telephones, is highly undesirable.

While grumbling about this potential ugly clutter can I urge everyone to visit the open green space at Swiss Cottage where the blossom trees are, like every year, simply magnificent.

Everything possible should be done to ensure it is protected.
