Let’s talk about fire safety concerns

Contractors abseil as they remove cladding on the Chalcots estate

• WHEN I invited the leader of Camden Council to meet leaseholders from Chalcots to discuss their concerns over fire safety, she quickly agreed.

Cllr Georgia Gould and Cllr Pat Callaghan (then cabinet member for housing) attended our meeting on September 19 and we did our best to get Chalcots leaseholders to come.

But, despite requests from me, as chair of Camden Leaseholders’ Forum, and from the last chair of the Chalcots Estate Leaseholders’ Association, officers felt unable to write to all the Chalcots leaseholders about the meeting.

We are to have a second meeting on fire safety at 6.45pm on Monday December 11 in the Council Chamber in Judd Street.

Cllr Meric Apak (now cabinet member for better homes), Keith Scott (director of resident safety), and Anthony Essien (chief executive of the Leasehold Advisory Service and so expert on leasehold law) will be available to answer questions.

Hopefully this letter can help ensure all leaseholders affected by the dreadful events at the Grenfell Tower, the issues at Chalcots, or the issues of fire safety in Camden’s street properties, can be aware of our meeting and come.

Chair, Camden Leaseholders’ Forum
