London Guitar Festival 24th – 29th October 2018
International Guitar Foundation & Festivals (IGF) has a long-established programme of supporting the guitar, through its many guitar festivals and masterclasses in London, Bath and the North East, through its Young Artist Platform and ASPIRE programmes, through commissioning of mainstream composers to write for the instrument and through its international guitar competition. Added to this impressive work, IGF is part of the recently established European Guitar Festival Collaboration, bringing together 17 leading international guitar festivals around Europe – with the EuroStrings Artists exchange programme, started in 2018.
The London Guitar Festival 2018 concert programme features outstanding international artists: the flamenco virtuoso guitarist Gerardo Núñez in his Quintet featuring the flamenco dancer Carmén Cortés on Friday 26 October at Kings Place, 7.30pm.
It is 23 years ago now that Ana Vidovic won the IGF’s International Guitar Competition in Bath as a young star. Her sell-out concerts throughout the world are a testament to her well-deserved win all those years ago. She will give a solo recital as part of The Big Night of the Guitar, which will begin with the Finals of the London International Guitar Competition on Saturday 27 October at Kings Place at 6pm.
The Big Night will also feature two IGF commission premières: Graham Lynch’s Waltz Cocteau for four guitars and Leo Brouwer’s Concerto Grosso for guitar ensemble.
IGF Young Artist Platform performer Giacomo Susani will also perform at the Big Night of the Guitar concert.
The guitar stars of the future will be featured in concerts throughout the festival, with IGF Young Artist Platform artists: Dimitris Soukaras and Will Scott; IGF Aspire young artists: Aswini Duo, Nicoli-Rocco Duo and Kato-Millington Duo; and the EuroStrings Young Artists: Dominik Carevic (Croatia), Boyan Doychev (Bulgaria), Péter Girán (Hungary), Antoine Morinière (France), Domenico Savio Mottola (Italy), Antero Pellikka (Finland), Andrea Roberto (Italy) and Vedran Vujica (Bosnia).
The very full programme includes concerts and masterclasses with the Spanish classical guitarist Margarita Escarpa and flamenco guitarist Paco Seco and premières of IGF Commissions: Graham Lynch’s Masques for solo guitar and Joe Cutler’s Marinus for solo guitar. The London Guitar Festival 2018 is a complete Feast of Guitar!
