Massaoke to swap stadium gigs for the York Rise Street Festival

Famous street party takes place on September 9

THEY have got crowds rocking at Glastonbury, sold out an Australian tour, and are currently winning rave reviews at the Edinburgh Festival.

And now rock and pop sing-song band Massaoke – a collection of NW5 musical virtuosos who play classics and get the crowd to join in – are set to ditch the stadium gigs and instead tread the boards for free at their neighbourhood street party.

The band – made up of a gang of mates who played together in Camden pubs – have been confirmed to play at the York Rise Street Festival in Dartmouth Park on Sunday September 9 .

Joining a line up across three stages that includes legendary Kentish Town ska band The Estimators and the Dig It Sound System on the bill, Massaoke take the greatest hits 0f all time and get the crowd belting out the numbers at the top of their voices, using a screen with lyrics projected on it.

And they plan a few special surprise guests to take lead vocals on the day.

Massaoke’s Mark Nillson said: “We love the York Rise party – it is a home town gig for us and we’ve been up for getting this date in our diaries for some time.”

* The York Rise Street Festival takes place on Sunday September 9 from noon onwards. Free entry.
