DINERS at a Belsize Park restaurant had their tastebuds tickled on Tuesday evening when an up-and-coming cook who wowed judges on television’s MasterChef turned up to share her mouth-watering menu.

Shauna Kelly, who lives in Hampstead, presented a selection of dishes at The Juniper Tree, in Belsize Lane. They included a chestnut and apple soup starter, a risotto main course with pan-fried scallops and a squid ink tuile, and a dessert of blood orange and geranium chocolate marquise – creations that recently earned high praise from Gregg Wallace and John Torode, hosts of the BBC’s popular competitive cooking show.

“It was only my second time in a professional kitchen so I was nervous but very, very excited,” said Shauna, who teamed up with The Juniper Tree head chef Dave Rann. Mr Rann is also rapidly carving out a name for himself in the culinary world, having trained under cooking giants Gordon Ramsay and Gary Rhodes. “I prepared the dishes I made for John and Gregg on MasterChef and they absolutely loved them,” added Shauna.

Restaurant owner Andy Kent, who lives in Belsize Park, said: “It was incredibly exciting to have a gifted chef, and local mum from Hampstead, come and share her creations with us.”
