Momentum are forgetting their own part in Labour’s defeat
30 January, 2020
• THE people blaming Keir Starmer for Labour’s Brexit policy are trying to rewrite history. Do they think we have forgotten the vote at the Labour Party conference in September 2019?
We remember the chants of “Oh Jeremy Corbyn!” as delegates voted by a show of hands against the pro-Remain motion, and voted for Corbyn’s own plan to stay neutral.
It was this neutral policy that Labour fought the general election on. Leavers thought Labour was secretly pro-Remain, and Remainers thought that Labour was pro-Leave.
Last autumn, members of Camden Momentum insisted fiercely that the conference vote by show of hands was valid. But now they are pretending that it never happened.
