North Middlesex close in on title after latest victory

29 August, 2019 — By Steve Barnett

NORTH Middlesex are just two wins away from being crowned Premier Division champions following a stonking 177-run victory at Shepherd’s Bush on Saturday.

Joel Hughes’s side carved out a number of telling partnerships at the New Ground, with Luke Hollman batting well with James Parslow, and then, when Hollman was dismissed on 52 runs, Parslow performing well with Will Vanderspar.

Parslow ended up adding 81 runs to the total, while Vanderspar hit an unbeaten 86 as North Midd’ posted a score of 323-5 from their allotted 50 overs.

The Middlesex County League leaders proved just as commanding with the ball. Ethan Bamber (3-41) and Liam O’Driscoll (3-20) both picked up three wickets each, while Hughes took 2-26 as Shepherd’s Bush were dismissed for 146.

The victory leaves North Midd’ eight points clear of rivals Ealing, who kept up the pressure with an eight-wicket win over Teddington.

Meanwhile, despite seeing their title challenge end prematurely, Hampstead are determined to finish their campaign in style.

Callum Jackson put in a mammoth effort away at Richmond, scoring 111 off 136 balls at Old Deer Park in a knock that included 13 fours and a six. Suresh Peiris also looked assured as he scored 65, helping Matt Watson’s side post 247-7 from their 50 overs.

Ben Frazer (3-17) and Scott Barlow (3-23) put in bowling masterclasses to cut Richmond’s reply short, with the hosts managing just 116 runs before losing their final wicket inside 35 overs.
