Oliver Skipp ready to make a fresh start with the Spurs
28 July, 2019
A star emerging from the Tottenham Spurs’ academy setup, Oliver Skipp is all set to make a fresh start with the club this season and prove his potential once again in 2019-20. The central midfielder grabbed everyone’s attention and made his foray into the senior team around the same time last year, after giving some impressive performances in the preseason games. In the end, Oliver went on to play for the senior side on 12 occasions and did fairly well.
Not just on the football field, in the betting marketplace too, many people are backing the young midfielder to put up an excellent show in the upcoming Premier League season. Spurs are only behind Manchester City and Liverpool in the Championship Winner market, going at odds of 16/1. Manchester City and Liverpool on the other hand are going at 4/6 and 9/4 respectively. Keen on building upon his last season’s performances
Oliver Skipp is right now training under Mauricio Pochettino and his coaching team. The coach has praised him time and again for his determination on the field, for instance in the team’s 3-1 victory over Leicester City earlier in February this year. The 18-year-old is giving his all as is keen on staying in the first team to continue honing his abilities alongside the senior players.
Talking to the press, he said that all he can do is continue pushing on. He stressed that although he was able to show a bit of his abilities over the last season, now he will be making a fresh start and will ensure that he has the same attitude. Furthermore that it’s important to show the same amount of fire every time one steps on the field and not to rest on his laurels. He is keen on continuing on his journey and hopes to improve on his last season’s performances. He believes that the preseason games will be very important for him once again, to hopefully get one more chance to impress Pochettino.
When asked about how his last season experience is going to help them this time, Oliver stressed that one can never stay satisfied with whatever one has done, and should always keep looking forward. He perceives the new season as a new challenge, and hopes to build on the last season’s momentum. Last season, Oliver made his debut in Spurs’ game against Burnley and also got named on the bench for seven Champions League matches. He was a part of the team which travelled for the Madrid final too.
Being a young player who is still learning the trade, he loved every moment of the exposure and has been thankful to have learnt so much during his first season in the senior football team. He acknowledges the fact that many players have to wait years and years to get the opportunities he got, and that he was fortunate to be around to witness the Champions League final and soak up every bit of the action.
