FLYING Dutchmen Lennart and Jeff Otten jetted into the capital just in time to help fire Crouch End Rangers into the final of the Camden Sunday League Challenge Cup.
The brothers landed in London over the weekend to visit their Netherlands compatriot Timo Hilhorst, Rangers’ legendary goalkeeper, and were both available to play against rivals Badu Sports FC in the semi-final clash at Hackney Marches.
Jeff has featured for the club in the past and his all-action display in midfield helped pave the way for a 2-1 victory that saw Rangers reach their third cup final in two seasons.
But it was debutant Lennart, the younger of the duo, who stole the show as he capped a man-of-the-match performance by scoring what proved to be the winner midway through the second half.
Tom Allnutt had opened the scoring from the penalty spot before teeing up Lennart to fire low past the keeper from just inside the box for Rangers’ second.
Badu set up a grandstand finish with a late goal of their own, and pressed hard for an equaliser to send the tie into extra-time.
But Rangers clung on for victory to ensure another crack at the cup which they surrendered in a painful 3-1 defeat to Clerkenwell Old Boys in last season’s final.
This time around they play The Hurricanes, who breezed into the final courtesy of a 6-2 victory over Auld Shillelagh. The final takes place at the Marshes on Sunday, February 18, and will be a 10.30am kick-off.
