Pay tribute to actors Judi Bowker and Harry Meacher

Unsung heroes of fringe theatre, Judi Bowker and Harry Meacher

• I WOULD like to pay tribute to two unsung heroes of fringe theatre, Harry Meacher and Judi Bowker. For more than 40 years they have trod the boards of fringe theatres around the world, and Camden.

As man and wife they have never wavered from what they do best, bringing the stage to the public. It has not been easy trying to raise money, with donations, shared box office receipts, and their own money, lucky to break even.

Throughout the pandemic they were trying, with strict restrictions, to put on plays. They managed this September, at Lauderdale House, to stage a version of David Copperfield. As I write they are doing a workshop for young actors on the same play.

Good entertainment has been sadly lacking these past 18 months, with the theatres decimated from lockdowns and restrictions.

We need these sort of artists, dedicated to their profession, for the next generation to learn from, as has been the case for over 400 years, starting, of course, with William Shakespeare.
