Planning committees ain’t what they used to be…

29 November, 2018

• I ATTENDED the planning committee meeting of Thursday November 15, promptly at 6.30pm, at the Crowndale Centre in Eversholt Street rather than the council chamber at the town hall.

I have to say that I found it very difficult to understand what was going on. Few of the speakers announced who they were and I didn’t know if they were speaking on behalf of the developers, Transport for London or Camden Council.

There was an over use of acronyms which I could not understand although I now know that “TfL” means Transport for London. I would have preferred that they used Cockney rhyming slang.

I was a member of the planning sub-committee when I was a Labour councillor for Swiss Cottage ward between 1994 and 1998. In those days the meetings were held in the council chamber and you could clearly see which member was speaking by their name plates displayed.

I liked being a member of the sub-committee because there was a free vote. What happens now?
