The Hurricanes celebrate winning the Chalk Farm Pool League First Division
THE wait is finally over after King’s Cross Hurricanes came back from the brink of defeat to win one of the closest title challenges ever witnessed in the Chalk Farm Pool League.
At the end of January the Hurricanes found themselves 13 points behind runaway leaders Boston Arms, albeit with a game in hand. But the triumphant table-toppers, who play out of the Hurricane Room in King’s Cross, ended up being crowned Division One champions by just two points after overtaking Boston Arms on the final day of the season.
The elusive winners’ trophy looked to be heading to Tufnell Park, but Boston Arms’ shock 5-4 defeat against King’s Cross Assassins, coupled with the Hurricanes storming to an 8-1 victory over Boston Old Skool, changed the tide to leave “relieved” Hurricanes skipper, Alp Sezer, brimming with pride.
“We looked out of it with two games to go, but we never gave up,” he said.
“In the end we got two great wins, and with our rivals slipping up, managed to take full advantage. It was a great relief to win our first title after eight years of getting so close. I’m very proud of all my players.”
