Primary school teacher hosts free virtual music festival for lockdown revellers

'We also want to keep people entertained and put smiles on faces during lockdown'

03 April, 2020 — By Bronwen Weatherby

A PRIMARY school teacher has set up a music festival with a difference amid the coronavirus lockdown.

Rak Hudson, 34, from Cricklewood is hosting the Facebook Live Lockdown Music Festival on Saturday (April 4) which will allow people to enjoy live performances from the comfort of their own home.

Mr Hudson, who works at Anson Primary School, said he set up the online gig to give artists like his wife Lovely, who is a singer, a stage to perform on despite much of their work being cancelled because of the crisis.

“Most of my wife’s gigs were cancelled so last Friday we decided to do a small show which was nice but we thought it would be great to get line up of different singers together and they might get a chance to share each other’s audiences,” said Mr Hudson.

“We also want to keep people entertained and put smiles on faces during lockdown.”

“We’ve got a good line up planned and people will have a chance to request songs and interact with the set via messenger.

“We have a diverse range of performers including Elvis and Alison Moyet tribute acts, cover singers, acoustic sets and even a drag act to end the festival. And they will be live from the UK, USA, Asia and more.”

He added: “As it’s the first one, we’ll see how it goes, but maybe we can get an even more diverse group of artists for the next one. We are hoping to grow it and organise more festivals in the future.”

Access to the virtual festival will not request tickets, there will be no lengthy queues for the bar or waiting around in a sea of people. Instead, you can sign on to Facebook and get ready for the first act to kick off at around 1pm.

Each of the artists will perform a 45-minute set and the show will go on until 9.30-10pm.
