KENTISH Town firefighters raised hundreds of pounds for charity washing cars at their open day.

About 60 people pulled up their vehicles into the Highgate Road station on Sunday to see their local crew with their sponges and hose pipes.

John Nyack, crew manager on the blue watch, said: “Every year we have an event which raised money for The Firefighters Charity, which deals with anything to do with physical and mental health and wellbeing.”

He added:  “It also gives us a chance to bring the community into the fire station and engage with them. This is the first car wash we’ve done in a few years and it’s kind of a workout for us. Every fire station in London will do it at some point.”

In total £350 was raised over six hours for the charity.
