Reassurance for those who may worship at the London Central Mosque

04 April, 2019

• WE write regarding an incident that took place on March 28 near Regent’s Park.

Following a knife attack, the perpetrators ran into the London Central Mosque, in Regent’s Park, to get away from the police. We have been informed by the police that the incident was not a terrorist attack.

However it was a very serious crime that was committed nearby and the perpetrators tried to escape by running into the mosque.

Despite this incident being a one-off and not terror-related, the high level of police presence surrounding the mosque, has resulted in many residents from our ward and other parts of Camden, getting in touch with us, worried about attending the mosque for prayers.

Ramadan is fast approaching and local residents and families often attend the central mosque because of the space and enlarged facilities available.

Many worshippers are attracted from our borough and from other parts of London, particularly families coming together in greater numbers during this special month in the Muslim calendar.

We really appreciate that our residents and others are able to use the wonderful facilities of the Regent’s Park mosque in our neighbouring borough, and will continue to work to reassure our communities that this was not a terrorist attack.
