TEAM Camden retained the Inter Borough Challenge Road Race Trophy for a 17th successive year on Sunday at Finsbury Park – albeit with a little help from their Islington neighbours.

With the top six athletes from Camden, Islington, Hackney, Haringey and City of London all scoring valuable points in each race, every stride was priceless.

Going into the final race of the afternoon, the girls’ Under-17s competition, Team Camden found themselves narrowly trailing Hackney.

The reigning champions did their best to restore a natural order to proceedings, with Jessica Wilkinson, Daisy Griffin and Alice Mouly finishing first, second and third to secure a top-three finish.

But Team Camden’s overall victory was only confirmed when Islington beat Hackney into second place to hand their neighbouring rivals a record victory by just a single point.

Managed by Camden Council Sport and Physical Activity Service, in partnership with Highgate Harriers Athletics Club, all of the scoring athletes will now represent their borough in the Mini-Marathon in April.

Harriers coach Graham Norris said: “What a fantastic day for all of the athletes that represented their boroughs. All of the runners that took part showed great determination and should be proud of their performances.”
