JUNIOR boxer Dylan Gibson enjoyed a dream debut on Saturday when he stepped between the ropes for Islington Boxing Club in Kent.
The tough 10-year-old went toe-to-toe against Sporting Ring ABC’s Freddie Smith on the West Kingsdown ABC show, which was held at West Kingsdown Village Hall.
Competing at 34kg, Dylan showed plenty of promise of what’s to come as he punched and moved his way to an impressive unanimous win.
It was a night of mixed fortunes for Islington as Darius Mingulete, 15, lost on a unanimous decision in his 56kg bout against home club boxer Kielan Bannon.
Meanwhile, there was also good news for Islington’s Ewan Jenkins over the weekend as he progressed to the quarter-finals of the National Association of Boys and Girls Clubs Championships.
Competing in the Under-64kg Class D Division, Jenkins secured a 4-1 split decision victory against White Hart Lane Boxing Academy’s Mitchell Asare at the Dagenham Roundhouse in east London.
