URSULA Zalewska says she is “fully focused” on the final of the Chalk Farm Pool League’s Ladies Championship after reaching the summer showpiece in fortuitous fashion on Monday night.
The King’s Cross Gunner potter looked to be coasting to victory when she raced into a 2-0 lead against Rachel Ostrige at the Hurricane Room in King’s Cross.
Her Slattery’s Squatter opponent was in no mood to surrender, however, as she battled back to level the scores and force a jittery final-frame decider.
It was then that disaster struck for Rachel as her victorious moment was cruelly snatched away. After sinking a very missable black, unwanted top-spin generated from playing the cue ball tight off the back cushion caused the white to follow into the corner pocket to gift Ursula the win.
She will now play Bernadette Bryne in the final in June after the Peckwater Tenants Association player overcame Judy Sullivan 3-1 in the other semi-final.
“I knew it was going to be a tough match as Rachel is a very experienced and confident player,” said Ursula. “I went 2-0 up, but then lost a bit of concentration in the next frames. She came back in style and when I thought that the game was all over, she potted the white!”
