Snappy Snaps rebrand too ‘vivid’ for Hampstead conservationists
Photo firm asks for permission to keep yellow shopfront

WHEN McDonald’s won its battle to open in Hampstead, it did so with the concession that its famous golden arches colour scheme would be toned down for NW3’s more rarified surrounds.
Thirty or so years on, conservationists are waging another battle against the garish after deciding Snappy Snaps’ big yellow rebrand is too much to stomach in Rosslyn Hill.
Planners have been asked to take action after the photo shop completed its company-wide style-guide change.
The Heath and Hampstead Society said there was “an excessive use of vivid yellow”, adding: “There is no reason why a house style should not be capable of being adjusted to suit different sorts of areas – any good designer could do so.” The Hampstead Neighbourhood Forum said the signs broke new local planning guidelines.
Camden Council is considering a retrospective application for planning consent. Snappy Snaps’ head office could not be reached for comment.
