Solid stand seals North Middlesex win over rivals
23 June, 2017
A STAND of 151 by James Parslow and Evan Flowers ensured North Middlesex beat rivals Hampstead on their own patch on Saturday.
With both teams searching for precious points in the Premier Division of the Middlesex County Cricket League, it was the visitors who started off with the bat in hand at Lymington Road in West Hampstead.
But skipper Tom Nicoll might have been regretting putting his team into bat when he saw openers Alexander Hill and Joe Cracknell both dismissed early on to leave North Midd struggling on 13-2.
But a third-wicket partnership changed the game as Parslow smashed 82 off 104 balls including 12 fours and a six, and Flowers hit 73 off 87 balls, driving 10 fours and a six along the way.
Their efforts proved key in helping North Midd reach 280 runs off 62 overs before the fall of their last wicket.
In reply, Hampstead shared the runs around with Mubasher Hassan top-scoring with 43, while George Adair and Steve Clark hit 32 and 31 runs respectively. But without a partnership as strong as Parslow’s and Flowers, Hampstead’s chase ended well short of the mark as they were dismissed for 217.
Nicoll put in a captain’s performance with the ball as he took four wickets at the expense of 66 runs.
