• A LANDMARK clock in Belsize Park has been lowered to the ground for the first time since 1859.

The clock of St Peter’s Church is to be given a complete overhaul by clockmakers Smith of Derby. The mechanism will be repaired and the four faces of the clock restored to their original glory.

The main funding comes from St Peter’s clock appeal, which the Belsize Society and members of the local community have generously supported and which remains open for donations.

The restored clock will be reinstated in time for a special Evensong at 6.30pm on November 13 when all are invited to celebrate the 160th anniversary of the opening of the church.
