Stop mass homelessness

‘We also have the worst housing crisis in living memory’

• COP26 has rightly raised awareness of the climate crisis but we also have the worst housing crisis in living memory.

Many people have built up rent arrears during the Covid-19 pandemic and now face losing the roof over their head.

Rising living costs and winter looming can only worsen the situation. Lord Bird, founder of The Big Issue, recently raised this issue in the House of Lords.

This perfect storm of conditions will be affecting people in Camden. People are already sleeping rough all over the borough and begging, not always by homeless people, is widespread.

The £65million announced by the government to support people in rent arrears is a great start, but nowhere near the £360million needed.

The Big Issue’s campaign to stop mass homelessness offers practical solutions. It deserves support. A petition can be signed on
