Trees and walls have been blown over by high winds as Storm Doris hit Camden today.

In Somers Town, a tree was uprooted outside Maria Fidelis school in Chalton Street.

In West Hampstead a brick wall was blown down on the corner of West End Lane and Mill Lane. Craig Blackhurst, who discovered the wall near his home had collapsed, said: “It’s at the back of our flat where my son and I often play football. Just so lucky he was at school next door and we weren’t out playing like we normally do.”

There was a lucky escape for pedestrians in Kilburn High Road, as part of a roof fell on to the pavement below.  Firefighters from West Hampstead were busy this afternoon removing “debris falling from roof level onto Kilburn High Road”.

Hampstead Heath remained open this morning, but nearby Highgate Wood was closed with City of London staff expecting gusts of wind up to 50mph.
