Thanks to those who made Parly Party 2017 a success
09 November, 2017
• WE are writing to thank everyone who ran a stall, performed at, supported, came to or helped organise Parliament Hill Street Party 2017.
When we applied for a Camden community festival grant to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Heathview Tenants’ Co-operative and the 30th anniversary of Mortimer Terrace Nature Reserve earlier this year, we had no idea of the impact this would have.
The grant allowed Heathview and Gordon House Road to join forces with other resident groups in Lissenden Gardens, Glenhurst Avenue and Haddo House, as well as St. Anargyre Greek Orthodox Church, who were about to celebrate their 50th anniversary.
We also benefited from invaluable advice from our street party neighbours in York Rise and Lady Somerset Road, and generous sponsorship from Paul Brosnahan and the Murphy Group.
While Camden didn’t allow us to close Gordon House Road, they did close nearby Lissenden Gardens and Glenhurst Avenue.
In this way we were able to bring communities on both sides of our busy road together, not just on the day, but in the planning that took place in the months and weeks leading up to the event.
In fact we had such a great time we are already making plans for Parliament Hill Party (Parly Party) 2018.
We are not sure what shape it will take yet but we are sure we will continue to promote the cultural value of social housing and work together to protect our wonderful communities and precious biodiversity.
