The ‘care’ I receive can be humiliating

10 January, 2019

• I AM an 89-year-old resident in Belsize Park. I still have all my marbles. I am sick and tired of being treated like an idiot.

I have a “carer”. Sometimes I would like to eat earlier. I can still cook, read, walk, go to the toilet unaided. OK, so sometimes I have been known to wet my knickers. But that is my concern.

I do not want some complete stranger to cook for me. Or to watch me eat. I find it humiliating. If I should throw away my food (which I never do) it is my choice.

I hate that my life no longer affords me any dignity. I don’t need or want a carer.
