The Spiritualist temple could flourish again

20 June, 2019

Rochester Square Spiritualist Temple

• I ATTENDED Rochester Square Spiritualist Temple for six years until it was closed owing to disrepair in 2014. This church offered a wonderful sense of community, a lifeline for many people from all walks of life, and gave great spiritual comfort.

Rochester Square church has an amazing history and should be a listed building, as the author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, writer of the Sherlock Holmes books, was one of its founders and he paid towards the foundation of the church. It is sad to see this lovely building dilapidated.

Why can’t the church be preserved and active? Surely if a day nursery was to take place vital repairs could be initiated. Why can’t the building also function and flourish again as the Spiritualist church it was meant to be?
